The German Bundestag has decided by a large majority to introduce a Veterans Day. From 2025, this will be an annual day on June 15th to express appreciation and thanks for soldiers. Veterans Day is intended to be a visible sign of appreciation and attention, while at the same time strengthening efforts to provide social care.
The proposal also provides for improving aftercare for injuries suffered, particularly during deployments abroad. This includes care, rehabilitation measures, therapy options and contact points for injured Bundeswehr members and their families.
Specifically, the proposal mentions help with post-traumatic stress disorders, which can occur even years after a deployment.
